Introduction

We want to identify encoding work from new releases in a timely manner. To accomplish this, we must review releases every day.

Identifying New Releases

We want to identify new releases from public trackers for encoders to pick up. Ideally, we are identifying new BDMVs, BDRips, DVDISOs, DVDRips and other releases from trusted groups.

"Trusted groups" are determined at the discretion of AnimeThemes staff. If you are unsure if the release is of sufficient quality, please reach out to the rest of the staff. Downloading the release yourself to verify the source files may also be helpful.

If a new release has been found, we should create a card in the Ready for Encoding list of the AnimeThemes Encoding trello board.

In the description of the card, we should provide the name of the suggested release so that the encoder may quickly locate it later.

Cards should be labeled accordingly. For example, new BDMV/BDRips with creditless extras should be labeled as "NC" and "BD".

If known, cards should attempt to identify size and provide a checklist of sequences.

BDMV

BDMVs are releases shared in the Blu-Ray Disc Movie format.

Video files can be found in the STREAM directory in the MPEG-2 transport stream format. File extensions are .m2ts. File names are sequences of 5 digit numbers like 00001.m2ts.

BDMVs often include creditless versions of OPs and EDs. We can't tell for sure which files are NCs by name, but we can make an educated guess based on file size. For JP BDMVs, look for file sizes between 300MB and 500MB. For US BDMVs, these files may be compressed further to the 200MB range. However, this approach is not bulletproof. Sometimes NCs are concatenated into a single file, for example. We will need to download files in this size range to verify.

If we have found an NC, a card can be created. When creating cards for BDMVs, please include which files are relevant to the encoding work to save the encoder time.
